Getting started

The basics of how Optima Stasis works.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?
No. You can order any test yourself — no GP referral required. If you'd prefer guidance on what's worth checking, our Health Blueprint has a clinician design a personalised set of tests around your history and goals.
What's the difference between "Shop" and the "Health Blueprint"?
Shop is à la carte — you pick individual tests or pre-built panels yourself, ideal when you already know what you want. The Health Blueprint is guided — you answer a short questionnaire and a clinician decides which markers are worth measuring for you, then reviews the results. You can use either, or move between them. Planning and clinical review are free — no payment until you choose testing.
Is Optima Stasis available across Australia?
Pathology collection is broadly available through our pathology partner network. Imaging and functional availability varies by service and region, so check your postcode before proceeding.
Can anyone order a test?
Our tests are intended for adults. Some tests have specific eligibility, which is noted on the product page. We're a proactive testing service, not an emergency one — if you're acutely unwell, contact your doctor or call 000.

Tests & panels

Choosing what to test and how it's run.

How do I choose the right test?
If you have a specific concern, pick a panel built around it; if you want a broad baseline, a general health check covers the common ground. Not sure? A Health Blueprint will prioritise the right markers for your history. Our Health hub also explains what individual markers mean.
Can I build my own panel from individual tests?
Yes. You can add single tests to your cart to assemble a custom panel, or start from one of our pre-built panels and go from there.
What types of testing do you offer?
Three kinds: blood and urine pathology, diagnostic imaging (such as DEXA body composition), and functional testing (such as VO₂ max fitness assessments). Each test page explains exactly what's included.
Are your tests accurate, and who processes them?
Your samples are processed by NATA-accredited Australian pathology labs — the same accreditation standard used in mainstream healthcare. Accreditation governs how reliably a result reflects what's actually in your sample.
Are tests and content reviewed by a clinician?
Yes. Every panel, result pathway and Health hub article is overseen by our AHPRA-registered clinical team before it reaches you.

Preparing & collection

Getting ready and giving your sample.

Do I need to fast before my test?
It depends on the test. Many need no preparation; others — like glucose and lipid panels — ask you to fast, usually 8–12 hours. Your test page and confirmation will tell you. See our guide to preparing for a fasting test for the details.
Can I drink water or coffee while fasting?
Plain water is fine and even encouraged — it makes the blood draw easier. Avoid coffee (even black), tea, juice and flavoured water, as caffeine and other substances can affect some results.
Where do I get my sample taken?
After ordering, you'll receive a pathology request form. You take it to an accredited collection centre — many are walk-in, though booking can reduce the wait. Bring the form and a form of ID.
How do imaging and functional tests work?
These are booked as an appointment at a partner imaging clinic or performance lab rather than a walk-in collection. The test page lists the duration and anything to prepare or bring.
Should I keep taking my medications?
As a general rule, yes — keep taking prescribed medication unless you've specifically been told otherwise. If you have diabetes or take insulin and a test requires fasting, check with your doctor first, and mention regular supplements when you attend.

Results

Getting, understanding and acting on your numbers.

How long until I get my results?
It varies by test. Many routine results are back within a couple of days, while specialised tests can take a week or more. Each test page lists an expected turnaround.
How will I receive my results?
Securely, in your online dashboard. You'll be notified when they're ready, and you can view and download them anytime.
Will someone explain what my results mean?
Yes. Results come with plain-English context rather than just a colour-coded flag, and Health Blueprints include a clinician's review of your specific results. We want you to understand the number, not just see it.
What happens if a result is concerning?
A significant result is reviewed by a clinician — it doesn't just land in your inbox unattended. Where follow-up is needed, we explain it clearly and point you to the right next step, your GP or a specialist, so you're never left to interpret something serious alone.
Can I share my results with my GP?
Absolutely. You can download your results and share them with your doctor — they're a useful starting point for a conversation about your health.

Pricing & Medicare

What you pay and how.

How much do tests cost?
Prices vary by test and are shown clearly on each product page. The price you see is the price you pay — there are no hidden fees.
Does Medicare cover these tests?
Generally not. Medicare rebates are usually tied to investigating a diagnosed problem rather than proactively screening a well person, so most self-ordered preventive tests are paid privately.
Can I claim on private health insurance?
It depends on your fund and policy. We can't guarantee coverage, so check directly with your insurer about what they reimburse for private pathology or imaging.
What's your refund policy?
Refunds depend on whether your sample has been collected or the service used. See our refund policy for the full details, or contact support if you're unsure before booking.

Data & privacy

How your information is handled.

Who can see my results and personal data?
Only you, and the clinicians involved in reviewing your results. Nobody else has access.
How is my data stored?
Encrypted, on Australian servers, and handled in line with the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles.
Do you sell my data?
Never. We don't sell your results or personal information to advertisers or third parties — full stop. Our income comes from tests and clinical guidance, not from your data.
Can I delete my account and data?
Yes. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time, subject to any records we're legally required to retain. Contact support to start the process.
